their predominant traits: a snowshoe's signature is their snow white paws, and they are descended from american shorthairs and siamese. similar to the siamese, their point colors darken over time. these cats are intelligent, affectionate, loyal, active, shy with strangers, and vocal. siamese also like water and swimming, unlike most cats. they are very social, do well with families and other cats, and shouldn’t be left alone for long.

common health concerns: a snowshoe's lifespan is 14-20 years, and it is a relatively healthy breed. the following are some common health issues for these cats...

• progressive retinal atrophy
• pica
• hypertrophic cardiomyopathy

grooming and maintenance:

• snowshoes are energetic, so they need some play every day, and can enjoy walking on leashes or running around the house after a toy.
• brushing their coat about once a week is recommended.
• regularly trim your snowshoe's nails and brush their teeth, and bathe them whenever they become dirty.
• check their ears frequently and clean them when necessary.
