their predominant traits: russian blues are an extremely beautiful cat breed, with short, silvery coats that have a faint tint of blue and green eyes. they are one of the most intelligent breeds, along with being quiet, shy at first, playful, elegant, and affectionate. when first meeting people, they are reserved, so you must win their trust and love, and for this reason russian blues are not the best with small children, and may be apprehensive of other cats/animals at first. they are okay with being left alone for long periods of time and are low maintenance, with the exception of their playful demeanor. generally, they are considered hypoallergenic due to their low shedding and production of the protein that people react to, but they're not fully hypoallergentic.

common health concerns: russian blues' lifespan is 15-20 years, being a healthy breed in general. the following are some common health issues for the breed...

• obesity
• polycystic kidney disease
• progressive retinal atrophy
• dental disease

grooming and maintenance:

• russian blues only need to be brushed/combed 2-3 times a month because they don't shed much.
• only bathe them when they become dirty or when their coat is oily.
• brush their teeth, trim their nails, and clean their ears regularly/weekly.
• they are active and very smart, so they can be taught to fetch or do tricks, and they enjoy playing with their owners.
